What is Bluetooth?

What is Bluetooth??  That is a common question for anyone who does not have it.  Bluetooth is a new form of technology that is widely used in cell phones.  Bluetooth has been around since the mid-1990s but has been gained popularity within the last six to seven years.  Many people believe that Bluetooth is a wireless earpiece that allows a person to use their cell phone hands-free.  That is partially true.  Bluetooth technology is more than just an earpiece, it is a piece of technology that unites cell phone users in ways not thought possible.

Despite having been around for almost ten years many people still wonder what is Bluetooth?  Bluetooth is a method of communication, where a person can operate their cell phones in a hands-free fashion.  Bluetooth use has gained popularity in states where it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving.  A person with a Bluetooth-equipped phone can make or receive calls without touching their cell phones; however, that just barely answers the question ‘what is Bluetooth’?

While it is clear that Bluetooth is a safer form of communication while driving, and an excellent way to carry on a conversation and still use your hands for other endeavors, it is still only a terse answer to the question ‘ What is Bluetooth’?  Bluetooth technology allows people to pair their cell phones together and exchange contacts, data, music, ring tones, and pictures.  A person will turn on their Bluetooth feature (usually found in settings under connectivity) and search for their friend’s cell phone if it is within a certain radius (usually three feet).  Then the person will ‘pair’ their cell phone with their friend’s cell phone.  The other person has to agree to the pairing by entering a three or four digit code.  Then the two cell phone users can exchange information back and forth.  This feature also creates another answer to the question ‘what is Bluetooth’.  That answer is a cheap alternative to purchasing ring tones

This particular answer to the question ‘what is Bluetooth is one that cell phone companies don’t want people to have.  The reason for this is that Bluetooth allows people to acquire ring tones without having to purchase them.  Let us say that your best friend has a ring tone of your favorite song.  You would like to get that ring tone, but you cannot afford the high data charges that your cell phone provider charges in order to access the internet.  What you do is pair up your cell phone with your friend’s phone and your friend will send you that sound via Bluetooth.  The Bluetooth technology saved you from having to pay extra charges on your phone bill, but also from having to pay an extra fee for the ring tone

So what is Bluetooth?  Bluetooth is an extraordinary piece of technology that can link cell phones together and help people share parts of their lives together.  Bluetooth can also provide a safer way of driving and reduce roadside fatalities.  In short, Bluetooth is a very useful tool in the modern world.
