E-Commerce
Effective marketing on the internet, also known as E-Commerce, is more than just placing ads and hoping customers come to visit your site, it is an entire marketing strategy that takes into account the many different ways visitors can find your online business.
E-Commerce has been with a quite a while, even before the internet exploded back in the late 1990’s. And while some of the marketing methods back then are still with us, such as sending emails in bulk which is similar to traditional direct marketing methods, most have been replaced by more subtle yet highly effective approaches. As the internet users become more sophisticated, so do the internet marketers. Effective E-Commerce takes advantage of all aspects of internet marketing which now include the sharp rise in mobile users who are accessing the internet in greater numbers every day.
As mentioned before, bulk emails are still being used and they can work, but the number of email boxes who either ban or place these ads in the “spam” file grows every day. Plus, your market may be more directed at those who access social networks more and eschew traditional emails.
One of the most popular and effective means of E-Commerce is the use of search engine optimization or SEO. This is a process of tuning your online business from domain name, pages, and content so it has the best chance of being seen on popular search engines. This SEO strategy uses keywords or key phrases infused in the domain address, page titles and content to maximize the chances that your website will appear on the first page of a search, usually conducted by a person who is looking for information on a particular item or service that you provide.
Other effective methods of E-Commerce include utilizing the burgeoning social network which has come to prominence over the past half decade. Accounts on social networks sites such as Facebook and MySpace number in the hundreds of millions, getting even a small fraction of that number means your online business can grow considerably. But traditional E-Commerce techniques do not work well on social sites. More effective means are to use them as updates for new information or services that you may provide combined with more casual or seemingly less important posts that show a more “internal” side of your business. For example, an event in your region that you are supporting or perhaps an update on internal business matters, the little things can add up and help you keep your customer base informed.
